Maria Kulagina biography
The exhibition is dedicated, on the one hand, the study of painting as an actual medium, and on the other hand, the archeology of modern consciousness. The author invites the viewer to think about eternal issues: about the meaning of the drama of being, its cyclicality and that without all kinds of tests it is impossible to give birth to a new one. Maria Kulagin is occupied by a law acting both in nature and in society: no matter what happens in the world, at micro or macro levels, after cataclysms life resumes again and again.
The artist invites the viewer to go through a certain route along the exposition, each hall of which is dedicated to his theme, and to feel himself in the space of the "Great History". The idea of the infinity of life for all halls becomes uniting for all halls. The good beginning of the world, about the highest sense of undergoing tests, is indicated by the key for the project of the work: “Angel in”, who meets guests at the beginning, and “Hugging Angel” at the end of the exposition.
This decision is designed to indicate the circle of time and the convention of the end.
The main theme of the work of Maria Kulagina was the study of the plastic beginning of painting. The work most characteristic of the artist are large -format picturesque reliefs. In them, the image seems to swell, becomes voluminous, in places turns into an almost round sculpture. It is extremely important for the author of the current project is interaction with the space of the viewer.
In the open process of the picturesque “doing” you can see the genetic connection of the art of Maria Kulagina with the art of the vanguard of the early twentieth century. Nevertheless, she does not have the former avant -garde vitrition pathos, but there is an experience of the uniqueness of each moment of current life. The exhibition will present both the early, purely picturesque works of Maria Kulagina, as well as her many spatial works of recent years, as well as the objects “Including”, “Hugging”, video and sound installation with the general name “The Time’s Course” specially created for the project.
